Program Offerings

Today ALL youth are at-risk and the majority of Inner Strength participants come from low-income, single parent families, who are in need of a program that will assist in showing the pathway to a brighter future. At Inner Strength we offer:

Hip Hop Music Project
Youth work with a Grammy award winning music producer to develop their own beats and lyrics within an environment which encourages self-expression, analysis of social issues, responsibility for oneself and others. Participants learn to appreciate the time, commitment and discipline that is required to produce a quality, original piece of art.

Cultural Activities

As a community, Inner Strength attends a cultural activity once a quarter. Whether it be a trip to the theatre, symphony, or an art museum, Inner Strength's cultural activities are designed to broaden the horizons of our youth.

Our last cultural activity was a trip to see "Soweto! Soweto! A Township is Calling!" Performed by the Freddie Hendricks Youth Ensemble here in Atlanta.

Community Service

Inner Strength believes that it is important to give back to our community. We participate in several community service activities (many through Hands on Atlanta) each year, and believe that when we are not receiving help, we should be giving it.

October 1, 2005 thirteen Inner Strength participants joined Hands On Atlanta to work with Project Open Hand delivering meals to individuals with HIV/AIDS, homebound seniors and individuals living with other critical illnesses or disabilities.

Out of Urban Experiences

Out of Urban Experiences are trips that take Inner Strength youth out of their usual environment in order to challenge their minds, bodies, and team work abilites. Some Out of Urban experiences include: rock climbing, ropes courses, and white water rafting. Our next Out of Urban experience will be sponsored by the Tallulah Falls School in the North Georgia Mountains.

Mentors At Inner Strength

Through our staff and volunteers, Inner Strength provides mentoring for our participants when needed. We provide individual family counseling directed at the specific needs/strengths of the individual youth and family. Our goal is to help families build better communication skills that are vital for interaction between parent and child. We also motivate parents to get involved with their childrens school because once involved the parent can support academic endeavors at home.
